Project Number: 5U01CA294539Â
Overview
This cooperative agreement between the FDA Center for Tobacco Products, NIH National Cancer Institute and Johns Hopkins University assesses how messaging about the tobacco product continuum of risk impacts adults who use combustible tobacco products (including those who have not yet been able to quit) and youth/young adults (those who have never used tobacco products and those who use non-combustible products). We will assess each audience's immediate response and receptivity to such messaging, psychophysiological effects highly predictive of behavior change, and immediate and longer-term (6-month) tobacco use behaviors using a series of six interconnected studies. This work has an adaptive and nimble design that will provide FDA with comprehensive, rigorous and organized evidence regarding message effects and effective message features for future public health communications.
